Liberty: Joseph Smith

I want the liberty of thinking and believing as I please. It feels so good not to be trammelled. (Joseph Smith, History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7 Vols. 5:340)

It is a love of liberty which inspires my soul—civil and religious liberty to the whole of the human race. Love of liberty was diffused into my soul by my grandfathers while they dandled me on their knees; and shall I want friends? No. (Joseph Smith, History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7 Vols. 5:498)

No honest man can doubt for a moment but the glory of American liberty is on the wane, and that calamity and confusion will sooner or later destroy the peace of the people. (Joseph Smith, History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7 Vols. 6:204)
